Approval Process for 40 Hours of Community Volunteer Service

Students are responsible for completing 40 hours of community volunteer service in order to graduate. The procedure as of September 2019 is as follows:

Before engaging in the volunteer experience, students must receive prior approval from their guidance counsellor. You will need to review the Community Involvement Getting Started Guide and record your community volunteer experiences on the Community Involvement Activity Notification and Completion Form.

The Community Volunteer Approval Process at SATEC @ W.A. Porter C.I.

STEP 1:  Complete the section of the Community Involvement Activity Notification and Completion Form entitled “Proposed Activity/Organization Name”.

STEP 2:  Request an appointment with your guidance counsellor.

STEP 3:  The guidance counsellor will review the proposed volunteer activity to ensure that the proposed activity is eligible for approval before you begin volunteering.

A hard copy of the Community Involvement Activity Notification and Completion Form is available in the Guidance office. This form also outlines TDSB approved volunteer events and activities as well as activities that are ineligible under Ministry of Education Guidelines.
