Re: Stop the Stigma Program

We are excited to remind you that our student organizing committee has been
actively preparing for the launch of “Stop the Stigma” week. During this week, a
number of activities willtake place that bring awareness and attention to the topic
of mental health in young people. One of these activities will be an assembly
that presents the voices of youth who demonstrate a story of hope and recovery
through mental illness.

Our school, along with 23 other pilot schools from the Toronto District School
Board (TDSB) was chosen to implement this “Stop the Stigma” initiative, which is
one of 22 national programs as part of the Mental Health Commission Opening
Minds Program. we are very proud of the work of our student organizing
committee, and look fonrard to the activities that are planned for this important

We would like to let you know that as we discuss the topic of mental health at the
school assembly, there may be some students who feelthe need to speak with
someone about the issues that have been raised. After this assembly, TDSB
staff will be availabb to answer questions, speak briefly to students and refer to
other professionals as needed.

Thank you for your support of this amazing program.

Thank you,
George Mavraganis
