On September 10, 2013, SATEC had the privilege of hosting a research team from the UK and showcasing our school’s three focus areas of technology, environmental and computing education.

SATEC was chosen as one of three schools in the TDSB to participate in a panel discussion with professors Sir John Holman and Dr. Tristram Hooley from the International Centre for Guidance Studies at the University of Derby in the United Kingdom. Among other countries Dr. Hooley and Sir John Holman have visited in their quest to learn more about career guidance and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.

Our guests met with Mr.Mavraganis, Ms.Stadnyk, and Mr.Lee along with SATEC’s curriculum leaders Ms.Wimbs, Mr.Sutcliffe, Ms.Stetter, and Ms.Greenfield for a tour of the building, lunch and professional dialogue.

As a participant of this research project, SATEC may appear in a future case study to be published in the United Kingdom which will provide recommendations to stakeholders in the UK on STEM education and how to steer youth in their country towards careers in STEM.
