Remembrance Day Assembly Performances 2018

On Remembrance Day, we honour those who have served and
died for Canada. In our Remembrance Day assembly on Friday, November 9th, we
witnessed students sharing their reflections on sacrifice and loss.

Dramatic Arts Performances

Grade 11 Dramatic Arts class presented a piece based on  “The Ballad of Ira Hayes.”                          This song is based on a true story.  Ira Hayes was a U.S. marine war hero who fought in WW2.          Elder Dr. Duke Redbird of TDSB’s Aboriginal Education Centre recommended our drama students share Ira Hayes’s story to our school as it illustrates the sacrifices of North
American Indigenous soldiers and the discrimination they faced and continue to face.

Music Presentations

Bani, Hamza, and Chelsey sang the classic song “Danny Boy”.

Kiana, Bani, Kayla, and Mr. Gladwell performed a song called “Now When The Rain Falls” by Frank Wildhorn, from the musical Scarlet Pimpernel.

 Dance Performance

The Porter Dance Team  presented a piece entitled “Pray” choreographed by Madi Claro.                     This dance explored the theme of loss and the pain of uncertainty when a loved one is at war.

Thank you to Mr. Breckman, Ms. Duffy, Ms.Elliott, Mr. Gladwell, Ms. Hodgson, and Ms. Rundle, all performers, and stage crew for making this assembly possible.
