Parent Letter regarding final marks

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,

5050 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario M2N 5N8

We want to take this opportunity to update you on labour negotiations with secondary contract teachers represented by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation District 12 (OSSTF) and to advise you on the impact of their labour action on final report cards.

As you may know, the OSSTF has not yet reached a local collective agreement with the TDSB and is continuing its strike-related action by withdrawing selected services. As a result, OSSTF has directed high school teachers to only provide marks on final report cards and to withhold any additional information about student achievement (teacher comments). The OSSTF has also directed high school teachers not to provide teacher comments to Principals and Vice-Principals.

As some students will not receive their report cards in the mail until July, students and parents should contact teachers directly by June 30 should they have questions or concerns about student progress. The TDSB is disappointed that we have not been able to reach an agreement with the OSSTF and we regret that they are directing teachers to take this action.

The TDSB has successfully negotiated local collective agreements with all of our employee groups, except OSSTF. We want to assure you that the TDSB is committed to reaching a fair contract agreement with the OSSTF and we are prepared to continue negotiations over the summer break to reach an agreement.

As always, please continue to monitor the TDSB website at and social media (@TDSB on Twitter or Toronto District School Board on Facebook) for any updates on negotiations.
